This six-night trip takes you into the heart of Bhutan. From the gravity-defying Tiger’s Nest Monastery to the Temple of the Divine Madman, this trip combines spectacular drives, unique nature walks, and fascinating monastery visits. You spend four nights at COMO Uma Paro and two nights at COMO Uma Punakha.

You also have the opportunity to enjoy a helicopter tour of Laya Valley (also known as the hidden paradise) at an extra cost, tropical Punakha Valley with its magnificent Dzongs, and the emerald Paro Valley, with rice paddies and ancient temples. Each night you will be able to relive your daily adventures in the luxury and comfort of Bhutan’s COMO Uma lodges.

Itineraries

Day 1

Arrival-Paro Approx. Alt: 2300 m. Dist. NA

Upon arrival at the airport, you will be greeted by our representative before embarking on the 10-minute transfer to the property. After checking in and spending some time settling into your new surroundings. if time permits visit some local sites including a visit to the Oldest temple, Kichu Lhakhang, and Dungtse temple. Day 2

Paro Approx. Alt: 2300 m. Dist. NA

After breakfast hike through pine forests high above COMO Uma Paro to the pretty grounds of the fortresslike monastery of Zurig Dzong. Today you can visit Ta Dzong, the National Museum, and Rinpung Dzong (Fortress on a Heap of Jewels). Cross Paro Chhu river via the traditional covered bridge Nyamai Zam and visit Ugyen Pelri Palace, and into Paro town. Later drive further up the valley and visit Drukgyel Dzong, built-in 1648 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal to control the northern route to Tibet.

Day 3

Scenic Flight from Paro to Punakha Approx. Alt: 1200 m. Dist. 15 Minutes

After breakfast fly to Punakha across the scenic Laya village (3,800m). The Layaps people call their home ‘Beyul’, which is a Buddhist word for a hidden paradise. On a flight, you can expect a view of the mountains of Gangchen Tag (6,784m), Tshendag Gang (6,994m), and Khang Bum (6,494m), and also catch a glimpse of Masa Gang (7,194m). You can also visit a Laya temple and try yak riding before a picnic. Your vehicle will be waiting at Zomlingthang Punakha to transfer you by road to the sister lodge, COMO Uma Punakha, which is a 20-minute journey. Day 4

Punakha Sightseeing Approx. Alt: 1200 m. Dist.N/A

A full day of exploration through the lush Punakha Valley, which at 1,200m is low enough for bananas and oranges to grow. The morning starts with a short walk across farmhouses and rice paddies to reach Chimmi Lhakhang, a 15th-century fertility temple. Later visit the 300-year-old Punakha Dzong comes into view. After lunch, the tour takes you on a walk through homesteads and farmland to Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten, a shrine recently built by the royal family. Duration: 6 to 7 hours Difficulty: Easy to moderate

Day 5

Drive to Paro via Thimphu Approx. Alt: 2300 m. Dist. 3 Hours, 130 Km

After breakfast drive to Dochula pass (3,048m), we stop to take a look at the panoramic views of the eastern Himalayas, including Bhutan's highest mountain, Gangkar Punsum, 24,770ft/7,550m. (weather permitting!). We will explore few sites before heading to Paro such as Memorial Chorten-built for world peace, Takin sanctuary-National animal of Bhutan, Zilukha nunnery, traditional Art School, Indigenous hospital, Changangkha Lhakhang-built in 13 century, and other sights and attractions as per available time. Later drive to Paro for an overnight stay.

Day 6

Paro Valley – Taktsang Approx. Alt: 2300 m. Dist. N/A

Walk The historical Paro Valley is the focus of today’s activities, culminating in a visit to the Taktsang ‘Tiger’s Nest’ Monastery, one of Bhutan’s most important pieces of architecture. According to legend, this cliffside is where Guru Rimpoche (Padmasambhava) landed on the back of a flying tigress, bringing Buddhism to Bhutan from Tibet. Today you can enjoy the steam rooms, gym, and swimming pool or indulging in one of our signature COMO Shambhala treatments. Duration: 6 to 8 hours Difficulty: Moderate to hard

Day 7

Depart Bhutan

Your 10-minute transfer to Paro International Airport will be arranged according to your flight schedule.
